OK.
If your garmin nuvi satnav becomes faulty it may have to be reset or indeed scrapped. Either way you lose the places saved in your favourites folder.

But if you have back up of your data, then you can save the important data.

This is the procedure:---

If you have backed them up to your computer it's a simple matter to restore them to your reset nuvi or to a new one.

To Backup Favourites in GarminNuvi Satnav

Instructions for PC:

  1. Connect the Garmin nuvi satnav to your computer
  2. Go to the Start menu
  3. Choose My Computer (or Computer for Vista and Windows 7)
  4. Right-click the Garmin nuvi drive and select Open
  5. Double-click the Garmin folder (For nuvi 1xxx series units skip this step)
  6. Double-click the GPX folder
  7. Right-click on the Current.gpx file
  8. Choose Copy from the right-click menu
  9. Right-click on any blank area on the desktop
  10. Choose Paste to put a copy of it on your computer's desktop
Instructions for Mac:
  1. Connect your garmin nuvi satnav to your Mac
  2. When you see the Garmin nuvi mounted to the desktop, double-click on it
  3. Double-click on the Garmin folder (For nuvi 1xxx series units skip this step)
  4. Double-click the GPX folder
  5. Click once on the Current.gpx file
  6. Go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen
  7. Click Copy "Current.gpx"
  8. Click any blank area on the desktop
  9. Go to the Edit menu again
  10. Click Paste Item
Now, if for some reason you need to put the file back onto your garmin nuvi satnav, you will need to send it over to your satnav using a program. For the PC, you will need MapSource which can be downloaded at:http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

To send the file back to the satnav using MapSource on a PC:
  1. Connect your Garmin Nuvi satnav to the PC
  2. Go to the Start menu
  3. Highlight All Programs (Or just Programs for Vista and Windows 7)
  4. Highlight Garmin
  5. Click MapSource
  6. Click on the File menu
  7. Select Open...
  8. At the top where it says "Look in:", select Desktop
  9. At the bottom where it says "Files of type:" select GPS eXchange Format (*.gpx)
  10. Click on the Current.gpx file
  11. Click Open
  12. Click on the Transfer menu
  13. Click Send To Device...
  14. Select the GPS in the Device drop-down list.
  15. Click Send
Currently MapSource does not work with the Mac operating system so you'll either need access to a windows computer or a windows environment on your Mac to send the file back to your satnav.

THANK YOU.
