Brake Pads replacing on 2001 Lexus?


Brake Pads



Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
    Lower installation bolt
    Caliper and suspend it securely. Do NOT disconnect the fluid line.
    Brake pads and retainers
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    2 pads so that the wear indicator plate is facing upward. Do NOT allow oil or grease to get in the rubbing face.
  2. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the brake reservoir. Press in the caliper piston with a suitable tool.

    Caliper. Torque the sliding main pin to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
    Wheels
  3. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add as necessary.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Support the caliper. Do NOT allow to hang by the brake hose



    Wheels
    2 bolts and remove the disc brake caliper assembly



    Pads with anti-squeal shims
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Anti-squeal shims to each pad
  2. Using a suitable tool, compress the piston carefully in the cylinder bores

    Inner and outer pads with the wear indicator plates facing correct position
    Caliper. Tighten the 2 bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
    Front wheel
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
    Hole pin hold clip
    Front disc brake anti-rattle with hole pin while pushing on the anti-rattle spring
    Anti-rattle spring
    Inner and outer brake pads and the 2 anti-squeal shims from each pad
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Inner and outer brake pads and the 2 anti-squeal shims to each pad
    Anti-rattle spring
    Hole pin while pushing on the front disc brake anti-rattle spring
    Hole pin hold clip
    Wheels
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The anti-rattle springs, spacers and clips can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.



    Front wheel
    Clip and 2 pins
    Anti-rattle spring
  3. Remove the front brake pads as follows:


    1. Remove the 2 pads.
    2. Right wheel: Remove the clip and bleeder cap, disconnect the pad wear indicator from the inner pad.
    3. Remove the spacer and 2 anti-squeal shims from each pad.
To install:

NOTE
When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

  1. Install the front brake pads as follows:


    1. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir.
    2. Press in the pistons with a monkey wrench handle or equivalent. Tape the monkey wrench handle before use. If the piston is difficult to push in, loosen the bleeder plug and push in the piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
    3. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner antisqueal shims.
    4. Install the 2 anti-squeal shims and spacer on each pad. Make sure the shims and spacers are facing the front (rotation direction).
    5. Right wheel: Connect the pad wear indicator to the inner pads, and install a new clip. Install the clip lock securely in the grooves of the pad.
    6. Install the 2 pads with the spacer facing downward.
  2. Install or connect the following:

    Anti-rattle spring
    Clip and 2 pins
  3. Install the pad wear indicator wire harness to the clip, then install the clip and bleeder cap to the caliper. Make sure the wire harness does not interfere with the caliper, etc.
  4. Install the front wheel.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Support the caliper. Do NOT allow to hang by the brake hose



    Front wheel
    2 bolts and remove the disc brake caliper assembly



    2 anti-squeal springs
    Pads with anti-squeal shims
    Disc brake support plates
    Slide pins
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Slide pins
    Disc brake pad support plate
    Anti-squeal shims to each pad
  2. Using a suitable tool, compress the piston carefully in the cylinder bores

    Inner pad with the wear indicator plate facing upward
    Install outer pad
    Caliper. Tighten the 2 bolts to 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm)
    Front wheel
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Support the caliper. Do NOT allow to hang by the brake hose



    Front wheel
    2 bolts and remove the disc brake caliper assembly



    Pads with anti-squeal shims
    Disc brake support plates
    Slide pins
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Slide pins
    Disc brake pad support plate
    Anti-squeal shims to each pad
  2. Using a suitable tool, compress the piston carefully in the cylinder bores

    Inner pad with the wear indicator plate facing upward
    Install outer pad
    Caliper assembly and 2 bolts. Tighten to 25 ft. lbs (34 Nm)
    Front wheel
