Dodge Ram Shifter Moves But Stuck In Park

Dodge Stuck In Park Mode

Actual Issue:

98 dodge ram, backed out, then put in drive only its like the gears aren't engaged. The truck starts and turns off  but seems to be stuck in park. Also cant push it out of the street because even though the shifter moves, it doesn't engage.

Vehicle Details:
Make (manufacturer): dodge
Model: ram truck 4x4
Year: 1998

Expert's Advise on this Issue:

As per the problem describes,it seems the problem is with shift linkage.
It sounds as if the shift linkage has popped apart if the shifter is moving freely without doing anything and you are unable to push the truck.

Ok,From Where To Start inspecting?

There are quite a few places this can happen. I would recommend starting under the truck.

Ok,But Where Is Shift Linkage Exactly Located On Dodge Ram 4X4?

On the left side of the trans you'll find the linkage, a rod that's attached to a metal arm on the trans just forward of the 8 way electrical connector. The arm has a 7/16" pinch bolt that clamps it to a large diameter rod coming out of the trans. Sometimes this arm can come off. See if that's the case, and if so you'll just need to loosen the pinch bolt, slide the arm back on and tighten it down.

Ok,but What If The Linkage Arm Looks Fine?

If that looks ok then work your way up. Where the linkage connects to that arm there is a plastic bushing. These bushings can wear out and allow the linkage to pop apart.

From there you will find the linkage goes to a pivot that goes between the frame and a bracket bolted to the trans. There is a large bushing at this bracket but if it were worn or missing it should just make the shifter sloppy.

Attached to this pivot is another rod that goes from there to the end of the steering column at the firewall. Check the rod to make sure it's connected underneath.

Ok,Will Check, but What If That also Looks Fine?
Is There Any Other Possibility To Check?

If it's ok there then go under the hood and find the rod there where it should connect to the linkage at the end of the steering column and make sure it's attached there.

You should find the linkage has popped apart in one of these locations, most often it will be right at the transmission.

This Details will help.
Thanks.

Dodge Magnum Get Over Warm Inside And All Windows Steam Up

Dodge gets very hot inside while driving

The Actual Issue:

2006 magnum, windows will suddenly steam up after 10-15 mins of driving. It feels very warm then hot inside.
Got coolant system pressure checked and all is good, carpets are dry, it gets worse if the dial is changed to dash vents from screen vents, could the heater core leak only when hot?

First We Will Confirm If The Heater Core Is Faulty OR Not?

If the system was pressure tested and held ok, you don't have a sweet smell coming from the heater and aren't seeing a residue on the windshield then the heater core should be ok. If the heater core was leaking then you should smell the sweetness and it would normally leave a slightly oily residue on the windshield after running defrost.
If you notice any of such symptoms in your vehicle, then yes heater core is issue.

But, If There Is No Such Thing Noticed Then?

You almost surely have a broken re-circulation door, not uncommon on these cars. The re-circulation door is what opens and closes to allow air from outside or inside flow into the heater box.

But how Will This Door Break?

The door is plastic and can eventually break where the actuator engages it, then when the actuator attempts to move the door it can't.

But What Is The Role Of This Door,What Happens If This Door Breaks?

Its Very Important Part Of The Heating And Cooling Control for The Vehicle System.
If the door breaks in the recirc position then it will cause the windows to fog up because of the trapped humidity in the car. It will get worse when you change to vents from the defrost position because changing from defrost turns off the a/c compressor, which comes on in the defrost settings to help remove moisture from the air.

Ok,Got It,But How To Remove Or Access The Re-Circulation Door?

There are two procedures,i will explain both.

First process is  remove the glovebox door. Now you will find the right side of the heater box and on top there is an opening where you can see the recirc door. The section of the heater box above the recirc door can be removed and the door replaced through the glovebox opening.

The replacement door will come with this section of heater box.

Second procedure. If you want to do it through the glovebox opening you can remove the new door from the section of box and just sneak the old door out and the new one in.

Which Is Better Way and Which Is More Easy?

Both are easy and simple.
The correct way to do it would be to remove the steering column and then roll the dash back for full access. This is obviously more work but definitely makes it easier to get to. I've done the repair both ways and it ends up taking about the same amount of time overall. So it's up to you, which you follow.

This details Will Help.
Thanks.

Electrical Problem after Replacing Ignition switch

Jeep Cherokee Laredo Ignition Switch Problem

The Actual Issue With jeep Cherokee:

After Replacing  ignition switch on  1989 jeep Cherokee Laredo inline 6. A strange and confusing problem occurred.
The problem described Below:

After doing that i had no turn lights, the radio stopped working and the blower stopped working. i dropped the steering column to see if there was a wire i had missed to the ignition switch. that was a no. i then got my test light an started testing fuses. I noticed that i had no power to any of those said fuses on either terminal.I pulled those fuses and they are not blown. I have headlights and tail lights. I went inside to warm up. Upon returning i turned the key again and all of the sudden everything worked again but i had no headlights or tail lights. i checked the fuses again. The fuses for the headlight and tail lights had no power but the others did. I went inside to look at the manual but that was no help. i went back outside and turned the key again and all the first mentioned did not work but i had headlights and tail lights again.

EXPERT's REPLY TO THIS ISSUE:

Its probably the adjustment issues with the ignition switch and dimmer switch. Start with the ignition switch.

OK,So From Where To start Troubleshooting?

With the switch off break the switch mounting screws loose just enough so the switch will slide. Put slight downward pressure on it to take any play out of the linkage and tighten the screws while holding it. Check to see if that takes care of the problem. If not, make small adjustments to the switch in either direction and this should take care of it if you weren't having these problems before the switch was replaced.

But,How to adjust The Dimmer switch?

To adjust the dimmer switch slightly press the dimmer lever and then slide a 3/32 drill bit in the hole of the switch next to where the rod enters. Break the mounting screws loose and push the switch upward until the play from the linkage is gone and then tighten the screws. Remove the drill bit and check the switch's operation.

Dodge Ram MAP Sensor Location

MAP Sensor Diagram

Its 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 6.7ltr turbocharge 4x4 truck. Looking for the location on the engine for the Map sensor.

Expert's Reply:

First Know What Is Map Sensor?

The combination, dual function Intake Manifold Air Temperature Sensor/MAP Sensor is installed into the top of the intake manifold with the sensor element extending into the air stream.

What Is The Purpose Of  IAT sensor In MAP Sensor?

The IAT portion of the sensor provides an input voltage to the Engine Control Module (ECM) indicating intake manifold air temperature.
The MAP portion of the sensor provides an input voltage to the ECM indicating turbocharger boost pressure.

The sensor is #2 in the picture and it is just behind the egr valve.

This is on the drivers side of the engine, looking down from above the engine. Number 5 is the egr valve.

One More Diagram Showing Engine Components:

The MAP sensor on your truck is on the air intake. On the left side of the engine compartment, when you look at it from the front, you will see the metal air inlet that comes from the engine, the EGR valve is attached to the top, and the rubber intercooler duct goes from there up to the intercooler.

The MAP sensor is mounted to the back side of the metal intake upstream of the EGR flow control valve, which looks like an electronic throttle body.

See the Actual Dodge Engine diagram showing MAP Sensor Location

Looking at the photo in this direction it would be as if you were looking at it from over the left fender - intake tube on your left and the sensor on the rear toward the rear of the truck.

Chrysler Seat Heater Stopped Working

Seat Heater Troubleshooting

Chrysler 300 seat heater has stopped working. The dealer said they charge me $450 to repair it. Both front seat heaters stopped working.

Vehicle Details:
Make: Chrysler
Model: 300
Year: 2006
Engine: V6

There are a handful of things that will cause the heaters to not work.

The possibilities are mentioned below:-----
  • A faulty heating elements in each seat. There is a heating element in the base and seatback and if one of them has an open circuit it will prevent the heater from working on that particular seat. If both of yours stopped working at separate times then a failed element would be the most likely cause.

  • Another possibility is faulty  heated seat module, which is the module that controls all heating functions. If both seats stopped working at exactly the same time then it's likely you have a module problem of some sort. The reason for this is  lack of power or ground to the module or the module itself.

  • Last but not the least it can be switch issue or wiring problem somewhere in the system. That has to be checked by test light.

On most of such cases the problem is with heat seat module.

The heated seat module runs $45 and the labor to replace it will be about one hour at the shop's labor rate. Just for the module and labor should be $200 or less.
