Replace Oil Pump on 2007 Dodge Caliber?

The procedure to inspect and then replace oil pump.

The details are as follows ---

Inspection
The oil pump is integral to the balance shaft module. The oil pump cannot be disassembled for inspection


Removal & Installation



  1. Rotate the engine to put cylinder No. 1 at Top Dead Center (TDC).
  2. Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to the following section, "Oil Pan, Removal & Installation.-
  3. Matchmark the position of the timing chain to the crankshaft sprocket and the timing chain on the oil pump sprocket.
  4. Push the tensioner piston back into the tensioner body.
  5. With the piston held back, insert Special Tool 9703 Tensioner Pin into the tensioner body to hold the piston in the retracted position.
  6. Remove the balance shaft module (BSM) mounting bolts and discard the bolts.
  7. Lower the back of the BSM and remove the timing chain from the oil pump sprocket.
  8. Remove the BSM from the engine.
To install:
  1. Clean the BSM mounting holes with brake cleaner.
  2. If removed, position the timing chain over the sprocket, aligning the matchmarks.
  3. Align the matchmarks and install the chain over the oil pump sprocket.
  4. Pivot the BSM assembly upwards and position on the ladder frame.
  5. Using new bolts, install them first only finger tight. Then tighten as follows:
    1. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    2. Then tighten them to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) in sequence.
    3. Rotate each bolt an additional 90° in the sequence shown

  1. Remove the tensioner pin.
  2. Install the oil pan.
  3. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  4. Start the engine and check for leaks.
