1999 jaguar xk8 has sunroof problem?

We have a 1999 jaguar xk8 with a sunroof problem. The windows in the rear will not shut and the cluster says the roof is not shut. We dissasembled the switch and manually operated the microswitch and the dash light went off but the sunroof still will not work. What are we missing-the lift arms were replaced 2 years ago and the fluid is fresh not sticky. (dealer parts) I know the front close switch is a fairly common problem but am puzzled why it won't work with the switch manually closed.

Answer:--You most likely have a problem with the piston in the rear not fully extending and that micro switch not closing. This will cause the windows not to rise. You should remove the rear seat to make sure that you have no leaks there and also at the lines going to the latch in the header.

Clarification reply:--
we took the panels off. The fluid is leaking back there-not pouring but definately leaking. Question of understanding. Even if they are leaking why doesn't the motor engage to raise or lower the canopy when we push the switch-we hear clicking but no motor-we have manually closed the microswitch to test it but no look.

Answer:--
If the control module does not see the switch on the piston close it will not operate the top.

Clarification reply:--

we have replaced the cylinders and the front hydraulic switch-no luck. It seems the switch on the console almost works backwords. It does bring the roof up but when the top hits the pull down latch it will not pull it down-manually yes but not automatically. the rear windows are not working either way-any thoughts

Answer:----
If you put the top up manually will it lower automatically and close that front latch?

Clarification reply:--
it will not close on front switch- it goes all the way down but then will not latch. you can manually latch but it won't close automatically. When its almost closed you can hit the switch to open the top and it pulls it down more and then release bring it back up off the switch.

Answer:--
Sounds like you have a faulty micro switch in the header. The module needs to see the switch on the piston and the header close.

We replaced the microswitch and problem is solved.Thank you very much, expert.
