Steering Wheel Replacing on Toyota Prius?

Steering wheel replacing procedure for Toyota Prius.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Using a screwdriver, remove the steering wheel cover lower No.2 and 3.
  3. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  4. Using a T30 Torx® wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.
  5. Pull out the air bag assembly from the steering wheel, support the horn button with one hand and disconnect the wiring harness.
  6. Remove the air bag assembly.
  7. Remove the nut and put matchmarks on the steering wheel and the steering main shaft.
  8. Using SST 09950-50013 or equivalent, remove the steering wheel.
To install:
  1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and the steering main shaft.
  2. Install the steering wheel assembly with the set nut and tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs)
  3. Support the air bag with one hand and connect the wiring harness.
  4. Confirm that the circumference groove of the Torx screw fits in the screw case, and place the air bag onto the steering wheel.
  5. Using a T30 Torx® wrench, tighten the 2 screws to 8.8 Nm (78 in. lbs)
  6. Connect battery negative terminal.
