How to Replace Cylinder Head on Buick LaCrosse 3.6L Engine?

The details to replace cylinder head for 3.6L Engine is as follows:-----


Cylinder Head
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Procedure is mentioned below:-----

3.6L Engine
Left Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the engine/transaxle from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the lower intake manifold.
  4. Remove the alternator.
  5. Remove the left bank secondary timing chain.
  6. Remove the oil level indicator.
  7. Remove the heat shield from the coolant temperature sensor and disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
    NOTE
    Do not remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
  8. Disconnect the exhaust crossover pipe from the left bank exhaust manifold.
  9. Remove the two front M8 left cylinder head bolts.
  10. Remove the left cylinder head bolts.
  11. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold.
  12. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
  13. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces.

NOTE
Ensure that the crankshaft is in the stage one timing drive assembly position.

  1. Ensure the cylinder head locating pins are securely mounted in the cylinder block deck face.
  2. Install a NEW left cylinder head gasket using the deck face locating pins for retention.
  3. Align the left cylinder head with the deck face locating pins.
  4. Place the left cylinder head in position on the deck face.
    NOTE
    DO NOT allow oil on the cylinder head bolt bosses.


    NOTE
    DO NOT reuse the old M11 cylinder head bolts.
  5. Install new M11 cylinder head bolts.
    1. Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts a first pass in sequence to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
    2. Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts a second pass in sequence an additional 120°.
  6. Install the 2 front M8 left cylinder head bolts.
    1. Tighten the M8 cylinder head bolts a first pass to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    2. Tighten the M8 cylinder head bolts a second pass in sequence an additional 60°.
      NOTE
      Do not remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
  7. Connect the exhaust crossover pipe to the left bank exhaust manifold. Torque the fasteners to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8. Install the lower intake manifold.
  9. Install the oil level indicator.
  10. Install the alternator.
  11. Install the engine/transaxle assembly.
Right Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the powertrain module from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the lower intake manifold.
  4. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
  5. Remove the right bank secondary timing chain.
  6. Remove the wiring harness ground from the rear of the cylinder head.
  7. Remove the wiring harness ground from the front of the cylinder head.
  8. Remove the wiring harness conduit upper bolt from the cylinder head and reposition the wiring harness to provide access.
  9. Remove the right cylinder head bolts.
  10. Remove the right cylinder head.
  11. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
  12. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces.
To install:

  1. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket.
    NOTE
    Ensure that the crankshaft is in the timing drive assembly position.
  2. Ensure the cylinder head locating pins are securely mounted in the cylinder block deck face.
  3. Align the right cylinder head with the deck face locating pins.
  4. Place the right cylinder head in position on the deck face.
    NOTE
    DO NOT allow oil on the cylinder head bolt bosses.


    NOTE
    DO NOT reuse the old M11 cylinder head bolts.
  5. Install new M11 cylinder head bolts.
    1. Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts a first pass in sequence to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
    2. Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts a second pass in sequence an additional 120°.
  6. Install the wiring harness conduit to the cylinder head. Tighten the wiring harness upper bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  7. Install the wiring harness ground to the front of the cylinder head. Tighten the cylinder head front ground bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8. Install the wiring harness ground to the rear of the cylinder head. Tighten the cylinder head rear ground bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  9. Install the right bank secondary timing chain.
  10. Install the exhaust crossover pipe. Torque the fasteners to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  11. Install the engine/transaxle assembly to the vehicle.
  12. Install the lower intake manifold.
