Saturn SL2: How to replace Starter Motor?

Go through the Starter motor replacing procedure for 1999 Saturn SL2.

The Vehicle has to be on Jack-stands.The starter can be easily accessed from under the vehicle. Please give proper support to the vehicle, before getting  under the vehicle.

Here are the instructions for removing it.

  1. There are 2 bolts, the one on the top is going to be difficult to remove.
  2. You will need an extension to go over the top and behind the solenoid to get at it.
  3. Remove the top one first, so the weight of the starter isn't on the top bolt when you are removing it.
  4. Once the top bot is removed, then only remove lower bolt.
  5. Once both the bolts are out.You should be able to clear the bracket near the end of the starter by pulling the starter out and away from the engine.
If any of the two bolt or both bolts are very tight to remove, then get a rust remover spray from auto parts store and spray few drops on the side of screw.WD-40 spray works best in such cases.

See the detailed instructional diagram to follow the starter removal task:-----

1997 Cadillac Catera: How to replace Brake Light Switch?

Its very easy, but accessing the switch gets difficult.

I will guide you step by step.

You can easily access the brake light switch from fuse panel opening.
For this follow the details below:----

  1. Remove lower dash panel and under panel.
  2. Loosen ventilation tubing under driver side dash.
  3. Remove the screws and pulled fuse panel out of the way as much as possible.
  4. This opening provided the best access the switch.
The switch is held by 2 tabs, that will not let it to come out easily. Here dont pull the switch, the tabs are of plastic and delicate, will break easily.

In this case use angled pointed pliers in order to compress 2 locking tabs on the switch. Once you compress them, just pull it out of the bracket.

NOTE :--- The cruise control switch is right under the stop light switch ,that is close to get the pliers on the bottom tab.

Sometimes a small flat screwdriver could be handy to compress a tab so you just compress one and pull the switch a little bit and then compress other side.
But do it gently.
Follow the procedure in reverse to install new switch. If any wires get disconnected, dont forget to reconnect,.

This will help.
Thanks.

1998 Chrysler Voyager: Transmission Problem?

GEAR BOX STUCK IN LIMP MODE & NO CCD BUS MESSAGE FROM TCA

Transmission getting stuck in limp mode. Most probably gears getting stuck up in 3rd gear.

Its a issue which has multiple possibilities.

Actually in sticks in 2nd gear when it goes into limp in mode

This could be caused by number of reasons.
It could be a faulty speed sensor( there are two sensors), wiring issue or a mechanical problem within the transmisison.
The first thing to do is to scan your Transmission Control Module for trouble codes.
The TCM should detect and store a trouble code that might be helpful to diagnose the reason.
You will need to find a workshop that has a DRB III scan tool.

All PCM, TCM and BCM needs to be inspected.

For more help read the details as follows:---------

  • PCM is Powertrain Control Module. It is a module that controls and manage your engine operation.
  • TCM- Transmission Control Module - A module that controls transmission
  • BCM- Body Control Module. This module controls many things such lighting, door locks, wiper/washer etc.
  • No ccd bus message from TCA means that TCM does not respond to a scan tool and other control modules do not get a message from TCM, It simply does not work like if it was switched Off or disconnected from the car systems.

When it does not work, the transmission is not controlled so it just stays in limp mode= second gear.
This could happen if your TCM is bad or there is a wiring issue.

In this types of problem first  check for all powers( battery voltage and Ignition Run voltage) and grounds.
If power and grounds are OK at the TCM connector, then communication circuits ( CCD BUS) must be checked then.
If everything is good and there is no problem with wiring, then your TCM is likely faulty.
And it has to be replaced.

FOR LOCATION OF TCM THE DETAILS ARE AS FOLLOWS:---

The TCM should be located on the right fender inner panel in the engine compartment but since your car is a RHD car, it could be in a different place. Anyway, it should be still under the hood.
The TCM has a one 60-way connector that has a 8mm or 10mm center bolt securing the connector to the module.

You should also know that there is a transmission control solenoids unit that could also be faulty but it would not cause a "no communication/response" issue.

See the help diagram shown below:----

The last remainder part of Transmission control module

WHAT PIN CONTROLS WHAT
THE HELP DIAGRAM IS SHOWN BELOW
PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO PIN FROM 21 to 40.

The diagram is as follows:---
TCM pin out details
transmission module pin details

pin out details

FOR more parts location help, read the details as follows :----

The BCM is attached to the back of the junction block. You will need to remove the junction block in order to remove the BCM from it.
The junction block should be inside the car near the steering column and pedals ( at least it is on LHD cars so on RHD cars it probably should be on the Right side).

You will need to disconnect all connectors and take the fuse/junction box assembly out of the car. then you will see the BCM at the back of the fuse/junction box.
The two bottom connectors you can see are attached exactly to the BCM.

See the image of BCM on this car :---

2004 Hyundai Sonata: Blower Fan only works on High Mode?

There are 4 modes of setting for blower motor on Hyundai sonata .if the fan is only working on high mode and not on other modes then this problem with motor controlling resistor.

When the Blower Motor will only work on the highest setting, this is most commonly a problem with the Blower Motor Resistor. Carefully inspect the electrical connector for any loose, broken or melted wires. If the visual inspection check ok, suspect a faulty Resistor.
The blower motor resistor is  mounted to the HVAC system, above the blower motor. Best access is through the glove box.

See the help diagram shown below:----

1997 Chrysler Sebring: OBD Error Code P0401?

The Chrysler Sebring Shows Error Code P0401 in OBD scan test.

There is no one single possible fault, that can cause P0401 error code.
There are a few different things that can set a P0401.
In this case ........

  • First, carefully inspect the vacuum lines going to the EGR and EGR Solenoid.
Make sure there are no cracks, holes or loose/missing connections.

  • If the visual inspection checks ok, this can be a faulty EGR or EGR Solenoid.
Both will need to be inspected for proper operation. More commonly, will be the solenoid.

See the help diagram shown below for part location :-----

Chrysler EGR parts

Instead of taking it to the garage to get it repaired by professional mechanic.I recommend you to first try to solve the problem yourself.

Like I say, First do the visual inspection.
It can be very simple and easy fault or problem like  a ripped vacuum line. But if that's not the case and  the solenoid needs to be replaced.
Then also  its not that difficult of a job at all. (See image above for parts location). Just a matter of removing a couple of bolts, and electrical connector, and keeping the vacuum lines straight (marking them with tape helps). The parts are not very costly too. The EGR sells for around $69 and the labor time guide calls for just under an hour to complete the job. The EGR passages should also be cleaned at the time of replacement, which is usually another half-hour or so of labor.
So you can try doing it yourself. But if you area newbie and don't do this type of job. Then getting it done at garage by mechanic is advisable.

This details will help.
Thanks.

1999 Chevrolet S10 Blazer: OBD Error Code P0452?

Check Engine Light Code P0452.

Its Fuel System related error code.

The P0452 error code is pointing to a fault in the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.
On Chevy Blazer the FTP Sensor is mounted to the top of the fuel pump assembly, at the top of the fuel tank.
To located and replace this sensor the tank will need to be dropped. Carefully inspect the electrical connector and harness to the sensor for any loose, broken or rubbed through wires (this is actual very common! Inspect carefully!). If the visual inspection checks ok, replacing the sensor should solve the problem.

2008 Pontiac GT G6: OBD Error Code P0420?

Error code P0420 Retrieved in Scan test.

Catalytic converter needs inspection.
The P0420 is a fairly straight forward code pointing to a deteriorating Catalytic Converter. The Oxygen Sensors measure the amount of emissions in the exhaust going into, and then out of the converter. When they see the converter is not "cleaning" the exhaust enough to meet specs, the converter is deemed "below threshold" and the P0420 is set.

In this case for troubleshooting

  • Make sure there are no leaks in the exhaust system.
  • Make sure there are no current cylinder misfires.

If these all possibilities checks ok, most commonly, the converter will need to be replaced in the very near future. Keep in mind, you will need a converter that meets GM specs. Those "universal" or "discount" converters that are commonly sold will NOT cure the problem.Because there performance will be low and Engine computer will not detect those Cat converters.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2006 Mazda Miata MX5: OBD Error code P0126?

OBD scan Shown Error code Stored is ECM.

There are a couple of things that can set a P0126. This can be due to a Thermostat that is stuck open, or a faulty ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) Sensor. There is no need to have a Dealer make the repair, most local shops can handle this without any problems. If the thermostat is the problem, it sells for around $57 and the labor time guide calls for 1.5 hours to complete the repair. If the diagnostics shows the ECT is the problem, it sells for around $34 and the labor time guide calls for 1.8 hours to complete the job. Labor rates vary from shop to shop, Approx Labor cost can be $80 to $100.

But original branded parts instead of very cheap aftermarket parts. They costs less but don't last long and don't give accurate results.

This details will help.

Cooling fan relay location, testing and wiring for Jeep 2002 Grand Cherokee?

To remove or to see the exact location of the relay, follow this simple procedure stand in front of the jeep. Remove gently the left front headlamp . A hole will need to be cut in the plastic at the bottom OR you can remove the entire front bumper to access the rad fan relay. New ones are about 120 from the dealer less at discount places .
It's the square part with the blue label and wire coming from it.

See the diagram of relay:---
cooling fan relay
BEFORE REPLACING THE RELAY TEST THE RELAY TO CONFIRM WHETHER ITS FAULTY OR NOT.
THE PROCEDURE TO TEST THE RELAY IS AS FOLLOWS:---------

Go to the fan relay and bypass the relay by jumping the Gray wire to the Light Green wire and see if the fan runs. If it does, connect the relay and try grounding the Dark Blue/Pink wire to see if the fan comes on. If not, the cooling fan relay is faulty.
NOW TO ACCESS THE RELAY.
To cut the access hole for the relay, remove the passenger side headlight.

Its simple, remove the jackscrew on  top of the headlight.
For you kind information the  mentioned jackscrew is on top of the headlamp and does NOT screw into the radiator core support.
Once the jackscrew is completely out (its 6" long), grasp the headlight assembly and forcefully pull the headlamp outward. Unplug the headlight wiring harness.
Now your task is more simple.

Unscrew the two screws holding the relay to the body.
There isn't alot of slack in the wire, but you will be very easily able to pull the relay out of the hole and disconnect it.  The locking click are delicate so release it gently to avoid breakage.

Also view this wiring diagram showing how the cooling fan relay operates and from where it gets power :----

one wire should have power, one wire should have ground and the other wire from the computer. The last wire goes from the relay to the fan. Here is your wiring diagram.

Power Steering warning light on Volkswagen Jetta?

The warning light comes up due to error code stored in system. The power steering or its related part is not functioning and due to this control module does not detect it and warning light coms on.

Gt the vehicle scanned.

Before that try reset procedure.

You can try to reset the battery by touching both the power and the ground cables together just make sure they are both disconnected from the battery when this is done . If this does not help you need to check the faults in the system you may have aisle with the power steering control module which is build into the steering rack as one unit .

This will help.
Thanks.

VW Jetta :Yellow Power Steering Light?

The yellow power steering led light comes up on dash and steering gets stiff.

Basically this problem is related to power steering fluid low.
But on this latest Volkswagen models.
Unfortunenately the problem with your steering in not a fluid or pump issue. On the 2006 and above year model  jetta there is no fluid or pump on the vehicle. The power steering on this latest model vehicle is electro-mechanical...meaning it is powered by an eletric motor and computer module. If the light goes on that means there is a problem with the motor, control unit or wiring. If the vehicle is scanned with a computer from the dealer or outside shop it will have a fault code that will help indicate what is going on and will help narrow dowm the problem.
I would reccomend bringing it to the dealer , have them erase the code and adapt/reset the system. this should remedy it unless there is a component failure.

This details should help.
Thanks.
